Dr. Shonka has been practicing in Boulder for over 30 years. He graduated
from the Illinois College of podiatric medicine in 1978. He served a surgical
residency at the Hines Veterans Administration hospital associated with
Loyola University School of Medicine.
His memberships include both the American and Colorado Podiatric Medical
Associations. He maintains board certification with the American Board
of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons American
College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics. He is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine as well as a Past President of this
organization. He serves as the attending podiatrist for the University
of Colorado Sports Medicine and Performance Center (CUSM&PC)
Dr. Shonka’s practice revolves about sports medicine and reconstructive
surgery of the foot and ankle. He enjoys his role as an "information
broker" and invites active participation of his patients in the decision-making
process regarding their care.
Primarily a cyclist, he has been actively involved in athletics his entire
life. He played college and Junior B hockey in the Chicago area where
he grew up.
