Our extensive network of providers is coordinated by a dedicated leadership team consisting of medical professionals who understand both the clinical and business sides of health care. Each member of our Board of Directors is committed to ensuring we fulfill our mission of supporting community members in their health and wellness. 2023 Governing Board

Peter Kaye, MD | Gastroenterology, Chair

Dr. Peter Kaye currently serves as the Boulder Valley Care Network Chair. He has also served as the Vice-President of Gastroenterology of the Rockies, the largest gastroenterology group in Boulder County. Board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine, Dr. Kaye is a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of California, San Diego. He is also a Staff Member of Endoscopy Center of the Rockies and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Nelson Trujillo, MD | Cardiology, Vice Chair

Dr. Trujillo currently serves as the Boulder Valley Care Network Vice Chair and BCH President of Medical Staff. He joined the BCH Medical Staff in 1997. He is a member of Boulder Heart, the largest cardiology group in Boulder County. Board certified in cardiovascular medicine, nuclear medicine and internal medicine. Dr. Trujillo is a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine as well as fellowships in cardiology and nuclear medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Gus Isuani, MD | Radiology

Dr. Gus Isuani graduated from medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in 1991 and completed an internship in internal medicine in 1992. His four years of radiology residency was in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Isuani subsequently did a neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical System. After six years of private practice in Texas, he finally saw the light and moved to Colorado.

In addition to his neuroradiology skills, Gus is fluent in Spanish and is learning French while watching Pinocchio with his daughter.

Gus, his wife and daughter enjoy hiking and traveling, but most particularly they love the scenery and weather in Colorado, which reminds them of their hometown of Mendoza, Argentina.

Trey Dodson, MD | Family Medicine

Dr. Dodson was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and grew up in Plano, Texas. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1988 and completed medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1992. In 1995, he switched paths from surgery to family medicine and completed his residency in Albuquerque in 2000.

In 2001, Dr. Dodson joined the faculty at the University of New Mexico and became an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, as well as Associate Program Director of the family medicine residency program. Dr. Dodson moved to Boulder in 2009 and served as Program Director of a family medicine residency program in Denver. He joined Dakota Ridge Family Medicine in October of 2011. Dr. Dodson lives in Boulder with his family. He is an avid reader, snowboarder and enjoys keeping up with technology. He plays guitar and is learning to play the ipu heke.

Josh Garfein, DO | Family Medicine

Joshua Garfein is a native of Littleton, CO. He is board certified in family medicine and board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMT). Dr. Garfein received his undergraduate degree from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He attended Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO, and later returned to Maine to complete his family medicine residency and a fellowship in osteopathic manipulation. Dr. Garfeins’s clinical interests include a wide spectrum of patient care from infants to seniors. He has a special interest in pediatrics, preventive care, osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT -- including his specialty board certification), sports medicine and procedural care including skin biopsies, joint injections, contraception and vasectomies. In his spare time, Dr. Garfein enjoys being outdoors with his family -- mountain biking, hiking and telemark skiing as well as carpentry, volunteering and community involvement.

Mark Hickey, MD | Sleep Medicine

Dr. Hickey is the founder of the Colorado Sleep Institute (formerly Rem Sleep Medicine PC), which was established in 2010 to provide truly comprehensive care for the full spectrum of sleep disorders.

Dr. Hickey is a Mayo-trained Neurologist and is both fellowship-trained & board-certified in Sleep Medicine. He is devoted to the full-time practice of Sleep Medicine.

After graduating from the University of South Florida College of Medicine Dr. Hickey pursued a residency in adult Neurology at Mayo Clinic Arizona. Thereafter he completed a fellowship program in Sleep Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.

Dr. Hickey was an Assistant Professor of Sleep Medicine in the Department of Neurology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center prior to founding the Colorado Sleep Institute in 2010.

At the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Dr. Hickey serves in three capacities: consultant to the AASM Health Policy Strategy Presidential Committee, Welltrinsic Board member, and AASM legislative liaison. At the Boulder Valley Individual Practice Association he is both a Board member and Credentials Committee member. At the Boulder Valley Care Network he serves as a Board member. He is an active member Colorado Medical Society and Boulder County Medical Society.

When not working, Dr. Hickey enjoys spending time with his family camping, hiking and fishing.

Ben Keidan, MD | Internal Medicine

Ben started his role as Chief Medical Officer at BCH in 2018 and is excited to continue his focus on patient safety, quality and patient and care team experience. Ben is an internal medicine physician who has been on staff with BCH for over 10 years and has previously worked as both a primary care and hospital medicine physician. Prior to 2018, he was the Medical Director for Quality and Population Health for the BCH employed physician group where he focused on improving the value (high quality, affordable health care) with an emphasis on improving communication and collaboration amongst health care teams and with patients.

Originally from suburban Detroit, he studied history at the University of Michigan and earned his MD from Wayne State University. He completed his residency and served as Chief Medical Resident at George Washington University, followed by practicing internal medicine and hospital medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and joining the teaching faculty of Harvard Medical School.

Ben is married and has two daughters. He enjoys trail running, swimming and skiing, as well as live music and cooking.

Tim Meyers, MD | Emergency Department

Dr. Meyers was born and raised in the Maryland countryside. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Prior to starting medical school, he was a research scientist in the government defense sector. Dr. Meyers received his medical degree from the University of Colorado and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University Hospital. He joined the medical staff at BCH upon completing his residency in 2003. Dr. Meyers is board certified in Emergency Medicine and is currently the President of Boulder Emergency Physicians, PC. He is President-Elect of the Medical Staff. In his time at BCH he has been involved in many administrative roles. He served as the Chair of the Surgical and Trauma Services Department from 2014-2016. He currently serves on the Medical Executive, Patient Safety and Sepsis committees. He enjoys being outside in the Colorado mountains with his wife and twin daughters, skiing, mountain biking and surfing in his free time.

Thomas Kunstman, MD | Pediatrics, Chair

Adam Palazzari, MD | Pediatrics

Dr. Palazzari started Lafayette Pediatrics and Internal Medicine in 2011. Originally from Minnesota, he received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. He attended the University of Minnesota Medical School where he earned his M.D. and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society. In 2005, he completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following residency, he worked as an Academic Hospitalist at UNC for a year, before moving to Colorado. Here, Dr. Palazzari worked at Broomfield Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, in Broomfield, CO, transforming it from a pediatrics-only clinic to a full Med/Peds clinic. He is board certified in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. Dr. Palazzari has courtesy staff privileges at The Children’s Hospital and admitting staff privileges at Avista Adventist Hospital and Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP).

Dr. Palazzari lives in Lafayette with his wife Kari and their sons Finn and Felix. His is an avid downhill skier and enjoys hiking, mountain biking, camping and photography.

Cari Higgins | Commercial Insurance Products

Cari graduated from the University of Alabama where she played Division I soccer. A city of Boulder resident for over 20 years, she and her husband moved to rural Boulder County in 2018. Along with working in real estate and construction, Cari is an avid supporter of several nonprofits, including the Brake the Cycle charity bike ride she started and Strong Women Strong World, which helps girls and women rise out of poverty. She sits on the boards of USA Cycling, Wednesday Morning Velo, Cyclists 4 Community, and Boulder Valley Care Network, and she's a coach for the Olympic Development Cycling team through USA Cycling. When she's not supporting clients or the local community, Cari can be found on the bike, hiking local trails, skiing and spending time with her husband and their two Rottweilers.

Dee Perry | Medicare Insurance Products

Dee Perry enjoyed a successful business career in a variety of roles in sales, marketing and financial management. Dee retired from McDATA Corporation after leading a successful public offering of that Company. Continuing her focus on business operations and management, she has volunteered her time on company and community governance boards, including Boulder Community Health, I Have a Dream Foundation of Boulder County, the Center for Social Responsibility Advisory Board at the CU Leeds School of Business, TRU Community Care and WAVi Inc. She also has served as an executive coach for business classes at the Leeds School. Dee served as interim President of the BCH Foundation for 9 months in 2016.

John Tobey, MD | BVCN Medical Director (ex officio)

Dr. Tobey is a physiatrist at Spine West in Boulder, CO. He received his medical degree at the University of Utah. His residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spine and Sports Fellowship were at the University of Colorado. He is also a physician for the U.S. Ski Team.

Donald A. Maschka, MD | BVIPA President (ex officio)

Dr. Maschka is a board certified Otolaryngologist and has completed a fellowship in the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Iowa in 1992 and completed his residency in 1997 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. After residency he practiced in Iowa for 17 years and enjoyed a high-paced and varied otolaryngology practice. During this time he trained ENT residents as an Associate Professor for the University of Iowa and has also provided services for the Mayo Clinic Health System in Minnesota. In 2006 Dr. Maschka founded a successful allergy practice utilizing innovative allergy techniques. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors at multiple hospital, clinic, and surgery center boards. He has won numerous awards and has been recognized for his dedication to patient care and service to the local community. He joined the staff of Boulder Valley Ears, Nose, and Throat in 2015, and is Medical Director of the Boulder Allergy Clinic. His special interests include general and pediatric otolaryngology, thyroid surgery, and the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disorders of the head and neck. Outside of the office, Dr. Maschka likes to spend time with his wife and two adult sons, as well as being a competitive cyclocross biker.

Bill Munson | BVCN Treasurer, BCH CFO (ex officio)

Bill joined BCH in 2008 and has more than 30 years’ experience in hospital financial management. Prior to BCH, Bill served as Chief Financial Officer at North Colorado Medical Center (Greeley, Colo.) and held hospital financial management positions with Humana in Kansas, California, Alaska and Utah. Bill also served as an adjunct professor for the Master’s Program in Healthcare Administration at the University of Kansas.

Bill received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1987 and a Master of Business Administration degree in 2007 from Colorado Christian University. He is a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Bill serves on the board of directors for several organizations that provide needed community services in the areas of outpatient surgery, sports medicine, and hospital laundry. He is currently appointed by Colorado Senate President Garcia’s office as the hospital representative for the Medicaid Provider Rate Review Advisory Committee. Bill is Treasurer for the Boulder Valley Care Network, a clinically integrated network of over 350 providers. He also serves in leadership roles on the Finance and Audit Committees for Captis, which is a member driven supply network for 80+ hospitals and healthcare systems.

Bill grew up in Colorado Springs. His family includes wife Amy, and two daughters, Katie and Lauren. His interests include horseback riding, hunting and fishing, Jeeping, and enjoying the outdoors. Bill is also a member of the Pikes Peak Range Riders in Colorado Springs. Bill enjoys playing guitar and learning the banjo.

Rob Vissers, MD | BCH Administration (ex officio)

Dr. Robert Vissers is the Chief Executive Officer of Boulder Community Health, a non-profit, independent health system based in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Vissers came to Boulder from Portland Oregon as the Chief Operating Officer in 2014 and was named CEO the summer of 2015. He continues to serve as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Instructor in the Division of Management at Oregon Health Sciences University.

Dr. Vissers attended the Residency Program in Emergency Medicine at Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, BC, Canada; was an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School and was the Residency Director of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Prior to his current role, Dr. Vissers was the Chief for Emergency Medicine and Chief Medical Officer at Emanuel Medical Center, a level-one trauma center in Portland, Oregon.

He is a popular speaker at medical conferences, both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Vissers is a national expert in emergency airway management, quality and patient flow and he has authored over 50 book chapters and countless articles on many healthcare topics. He is currently an instructor in the UC Denver HealthCare MBA program and serves on the Colorado Hospital Association Board as the Chair of the CHA Clinical Excellence Committee.

Aditya J. Yerrapragada, MD | Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Yerrapragada earned his Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin. He then attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he trained at Harborview Medical Center, one of the busiest trauma centers in the country. Afterward, he committed to an additional year of fellowship training in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Using evidence-based medicine and compassion, Dr. Yerrapragada collaboratively works with his patients to help them understand their condition and get them back to a better quality of life. He uses the safest, latest, and most effective methods of treatment and offers a variety of surgical techniques to meet their individualized needs. Nothing gives Dr. Yerrapragada more joy than helping his patients get back on track to achieving their dreams.

Leslie Busby, MD | Medical Oncology

Dr. Leslie Busby is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist. His practice expertise includes blood cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, as well as nonmalignant blood disorders such as anemia and coagulation abnormalities. He is also a general medical oncologist treating colorectal, lung, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal cancers. Adopting a collaborative approach to care, Dr. Busby is a member of weekly gastrointestinal, neurological, breast, general, and hematology tumor boards, presenting and reviewing cases with a multi-disciplinary team of cancer specialists such as surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and radiation oncologists. His commitment to advancing cutting-edge cancer treatment in the community is the hallmark of his practice. This joint effort ensures his patients are given the best option for treatment tailored to their specific diagnosis. As the chairman of the US Oncology Network Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Dr. Busby is directly involved helping practices like Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers provide safe and efficient therapy in their practices and bringing the most recent advances in cancer therapies to patients.

Kevin Bundy, MD | Family Medicine

Dr. Kevin Bundy is a board-certified family medicine physician. He is originally from Kentucky, where he completed his bachelor's degree in journalism and marketing at Northern Kentucky University. He received his medical degree from the Boonshaft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and went on to complete his family medicine residency at the Bethesda Family Practice Residency in Cincinnati. Dr. Bundy has held academic appointments at both the University of Colorado and the University of Cincinnati where he was recognized as the Outstanding Community Preceptor of the Year in 2014. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Bundy enjoys seeing patients of all ages and providing care for entire families. He has a particular interest in men’s health, preventive medicine and pediatric care. He believes in partnering with his patients to help them achieve their health goals. In his spare time, Dr. Bundy enjoys hiking, skiing and the natural beauty of state he now calls home. He is also a practitioner and certified instructor of Hatha Yoga.

Cathy Higgins | CEO/CFO BoulderCentre for Ortho

Cathy Higgins came to the BoulderCentre for Orthopedics after 17 years of leading the Boulder Valley Individual Practice Association.

Cathy is passionate about the preservation of independent practice in the community in which she lives and raised her family.

Bill Munson | BVCN Treasurer, BCH CFO

Bill Munson has served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Boulder Community Health since 2008 where he has responsibility for most financial management functions, and is responsible for operational support services such as Case Management, Materials Management, Security and Emergency Management, and Facilities Management. Prior to joining BCH, Mr. Munson served as Chief Financial Officer at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado for 15 years. Prior to 1993, he served in financial management positions for Humana hospitals in Overland Park, Kansas; Huntington Beach, California; Anchorage, Alaska, and in Layton, Utah. Mr. Munson has also served as an adjunct professor for the Master’s Program in Healthcare Administration at the University of Kansas. He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Colorado Christian University. Bill is also certified in Healthcare Compliance with the Healthcare Compliance Association. Bill serves on the board of directors for several organizations that provide needed community services in the areas of outpatient surgery, sports medicine, and hospital laundry. He also serves in leadership roles on the Finance and Audit Committees for Captis which is a member driven supply network for 80+ hospitals and healthcare systems. Bill has served on two medical mission trips with Boulder Community Health in Mante, Mexico.

Robert Fineberg, MD | Family Medicine

As a board-certified family practioner with Boulder Creek Family Medicine, Robert Fineberg, MD, earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine located in Aurora, Colorado. As a part of his studies, he followed an innovative four-year pediatric program known as Education in Pediatrics Across the Continuum (EPACP). During his residency, Dr. Fineberg’s training included obstetrics (OB), hospital medicine, integrative medicine and psychiatric care. Having completed much of his residency during the COVID pandemic, he volunteered for additional shifts in the ICU to care for COVID patients. Prior to joining Boulder Creek Family Medicine in 2022, Dr. Fineberg completed his residency as a family medicine physician and hospitalist at BCH’s Foothills Hospital and at St. Anthony’s Family Medicine, located in Westminster, Colorado, where he was a chief resident. When he’s not working you can find Dr. Fineberg skiing, biking and reading about all things related to history.

Mike Jefferies | BCH CIO

Michael Jefferies serves as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Boulder Community Health where he is responsible for implementing technology solutions that advance provider capabilities and operational efficiency. Michael joined Boulder Community Health in 2016 and has diverse work setting experience including acute care hospitals, consulting, healthcare IT outsourcing, and working for a leading Healthcare IT vendor. Prior to his current role Michael was Vice President of Information Systems at Longmont United Hospital in Boulder County, Colorado and previously worked at ACS/Xerox and McKesson providing IT solutions to hospitals across the country. He is especially passionate about improving the patient experience and giving providers tools to improve the quality of patient care. Michael holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Colorado and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. Michael is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds the designation of Certified Healthcare CIO from CHIME as well as certifications as a PMP and CPHIMS.

When not serving the community professionally Michael enjoys rock climbing, volunteering in mental healthcare, rebuilding classic motorcycles, and enjoying life in Colorado with his wife and two daughters.

David Morrisey, MD | Otolaryngology

Dr. Morrissey is a board certified Otolaryngologist. He received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Colorado, Denver in 1994. He went on to complete his residency in 1999 from the Oregon Health Science University in Portland. He joined the staff of Boulder Valley Ear, Nose, and Throat in 2000. He has been a member of the Cancer Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and served as Chief of Surgery at Boulder Community Hospital from 2004 -2006, and Avista Hospital from 2007-2010. He currently serves as president of the Foothills Surgery Center in Boulder. Dr. Morrissey treats both adult and pediatric patients. His interests include general Otolaryngology, diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, sinus procedures, and treatment of cancer of the head and neck. Dr. Morrissey has years of experience with balloon sinuplasty, eustachian tube dilation and reduction of the nasal turbinates both in office and in the operating room. When not in the office, Dr. Morrissey enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. Dr. Morrissey is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys spending time hiking, mountain biking and river rafting. He is also an avid fisherman and has never been on a fishing trip he didn’t love.

Dr. Tobey is a physiatrist at Spine West in Boulder, CO. He received his medical degree at the University of Utah. His residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spine and Sports Fellowship were at the University of Colorado. He is also a physician for the U.S. Ski Team.
