Provider Bio
Dr. McCarty is the Medical Director of the Colorado Sleep Institute. He
is a board-certified internist and is both fellowship-trained & board-certified
in Sleep Medicine. Having devoted his practice to Sleep Medicine full-time,
he joined the Colorado Sleep Institute in 2015.
Dr. McCarty graduated from medical school at Duke University, and completed
his Internal Medicine residency at Harvard’s Massachusetts General
Hospital in Boston. He practiced primary care internal medicine for several
years, during which time he noticed a consistent overlap between sleep
disorders and the medical disorders that troubled many of his patients.
In 2007, Dr. McCarty completed a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Louisiana
State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Following this,
he went on to assist in the development of the fellowship program there,
serving as Associate Program Director from 2008 until 2013, and taking
over as Division Chief and Program Director from 2013 until 2015.
Dr. McCarty’s academic accomplishments include numerous papers published
in the peer-reviewed literature, several teaching awards, and original
research presented at regional and national meetings.
Dr. McCarty is an active member in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
and the Colorado Medical Society. He is a distinguished Fellow in the
American Academy of Sleep Medicine which is a unique honor that recognizes
special competency in sleep medicine and significant contributions to
the field.
When not working, Dr. McCarty enjoys spending time with his family and
three dogs.
